Harper ~ A kick butt heroine who, unlike many other female heroes, doesn't lose her femnity by being an assassin/Paladin/Knight/insert-random-term-here. I especially love the opening line- "None of this would've happened if I'd brought lip gloss..." I'm not sure how she goes from,"Ewww, PDA" with Ryan at the beginning, to,"Yay! Kissing!" with David. She was also the kind of person I strive to be- intelligent, well dressed, and a go-getter. Anybody else getting Blair Wardolf vibes?
David ~ Why. WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST ADMIT THAT YOU LIKED HER INSTEAD OF TORTURING ME FOR HALF THE BOOK?!?! There, I said it. David was annoying, but like Mrs. Saylor, had a motive... (although hers wasn't romantic). I was really sad she didn't use her mind powers to convince the principal to put Harper back in all those activities. Darn it. In Miss Mayhem, she better come back to life!
Bee ~ Next to diamonds, the best friend ever. So much decorum! If she can put up with Brandon... Next to Harper, the best Southern Belle ever!
Mary Beth ~ Just go die in a hole okay? We'll all be happier! Back-stabbing, heel-tripping, boyfriend-stealing, family-insulting beyotch!
Ryan ~ Let's just have a moment of silence for the world's best boyfriend ever...*sigh* He was so sweet when they broke up! *sniffle* Although he does like Mary Beth, that has to say something about his character...
Blythe ~ Grrrrr! HATED HER! Convinced she was doing good, and added a plot twist! WTF?
STARS:
5 out of 5
Now, the book, no more character rants! Like in Hex Hall/School Spirits, Rachel Hawkins delivers a refreshing read- which I am guilty of finishing in forty-five minutes. It was nice to see a book that perfectly captured the South, that wasn't toostereotypical. Not all of us go to cotillion and say y'all in every other sentence... well, maybe! I know this so bad of me, but I loved the cover! GORGEOUS. I WANT THE NECKLACE! But what I don't get is what Leigh-Anne represents in the story except, well, a dead person. When I picked it up and read the first line I thought,"It sounds captivating, but asinine. Is this about how she karate- chops the sales girl when they don't have shoes in her size?" Nonetheless, I bought it since it had stellar reviews. And I loved it!
